Daily Matchups for 7/9/2016
Max Scherzer- Easily the top pitcher on the day. Mets haven’t been hitting well of late. Should get plenty of strikeouts and a shot at the W.
Carlos Martinez- Brewers have combined to hit 13-56 of Martinez, and are one of the worst offenses vs. RHP’s this season.
Danny Salazar- Right now the Yankees offense is a hot mess. Only down fall here is they don’t strike out much, which limits his upside. More of a GPP play here.
Lance McCullers- McCullers has great strikeout numbers but at 4 walks per 9, it runs that pitch count up in a hurry that being said, a matchup with Oakland could offer some nice fantasy value.
Rick Porcello- Only there Rays really have good match ups vs. the Boston righty, but the Rays as a whole have been horrible this season vs. righties. Porcello is in play in cash and GPP for me today.
Salvador Perez- 5-9 with a HR vs. Wade Miley.
Russell Martin- A matchup with Matt Boyd puts the Toronto catcher in play today. Boyd has been touched up by lefties this year.
Wellington Castillo- 3-6 with a HR off Jake Peavy. Peavy had a good stretch recently. Hard to think that’s gonna last.
Evan Gattis- Usually boom or bust, Gattis has a nice matchup with Kendall Graveman, who he has a HR off of while going 2-5. Small sample size, but worth a look.
Edwin Encarnacion- Matt Boyd gets killed by righties. Edwin has been heating up. Love him here.
Paul Goldschmidt- only 3-12 in his career vs. Peavy with a HR, but Peavy isn’t the same pitcher he was a few years ago. A gut call here, but I like Goldy in this one
Albert Pujols- May get overlooked today with Encarnacion in such a good matchup, Pujols has hit Gallardo at a 13-30 clip with 4!!! HR……an Angles stack may be in play today.
David Freese- Not a lot of value guys I would really look to today but David Freese stands out vs. Jon Lester. 5-13 in his career. Should be low owned with a nice amount of upside.
Jose Altuve- 3-9 with a HR vs Kendall Graveman. No reason Jose shouldn’t keep on raking here.
Robinson Cano- small sample size of 2-3 vs. Edison Volquez, but a nice matchup for him here.
Chase Utley- A beautiful matchup vs. Luis Perdoma. 3-5 in their previous meeting with him.
DJ LeMahieu- Came through Thursday vs. the Phillies lefty. Won’t have the platoon edge vs. a righty but should be overlooked a bit today.
Not many value guys I like here today. If you bottom of the barrel Cheap, Greg Garcia of the Cardinals is someone who has hit every time he is the lineup. If he starts, I’d plug him in.
Josh Donaldson- On fire. Tourney. Cash. He’s in play. Yup keep riding him.
Nolan Arenado- In Coors just about always puts Arenado in play.
Kyle Seager- small sample size vs. Volquez at 2-6. But Seager is in a good lineup that should score a nice amount of runs in this one.
Yangervis Solarte- Has a good chance to some damage vs. Brandon McCarthy- 3-6 off him in career.
Xander Bogaerts- 5-10 off Matt Moore. Moore has been beat up rather badly vs. righties this year.
Eduardo Nunez- Nick Martinez has been ok at times this year, but isn’t over powering and is the type of pitcher the Twins could take advantage of. Nunez is having a great start and is 2-5 off Martinez.
Troy Tulowitzki- only 1-3 of lefty Matt Boyd, but that one hit was a HR. Could be a big offensive day for the Jays righties.
Andrelton Simmons- 4-4 off Yovani Gallardo. Gallardo hasn’t been very good for a few years. Simmons could be a cheap fill in as part of an Angels stack vs. the Orioles righty.
Jordy Mercer- will most likely be overlooked because of the year Lester is having, but a 4-11 career vs. him with a HR offers some upside.
Mike Trout- 2-3 is a small sample to go of off vs. Gallardo, but playing in the band box that is Camden Yards, Vs. a guy like Gallardo, I’m locking Trout in my main lineup.
Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez– Pretty obvious choices vs. a young lefty in Coors.
Mookie Betts- 5-9 with a HR in his career of Matt Moore. Love the Boston RHB’s in this one.
Giancarlo Stanton- The big right hander vs. Lefty John Lamb who has had a rough time on the road.Stanton has been heating up and could be in for a big day here.
Kevin Pillar- 2-5 with A HR vs. Matt Boyd, Pillar could be the one Jays bat overlooked the most, that has one of the bigger days.
Yasiel Puig- a robust 4-5 off Luis Pedermo.
Miguel Sano- 3-3 with 2 HR vs Nick Martinez………..yikes.
Matt Kemp- 6 -12 vs. McCarthy.
With so many mid range options, you can most likely find three outfielders to start without breaking the bank. However if you do want to go bargain hunting, Jeff Francouer is 6-10 with a HR off Jose Quintana and Michael Bourn is 5-12 with a HR off Jake Peavy.
STACKS OF THE DAY
Hit on 3 of 5 stacks listed yesterday. Had Boston as the top team team to stack and they came through well. Was shocked the Yankees threw up a goose egg. Big disappointment there.
1. Toronto Bluejays- A bit of a disappointment Friday vs. Pelfrey, good reason to think they bounce back today. Target Donaldson, Encarnacion, Pillar, Martin and Travis.
2. Minnesota Twins- NIck Martinez just isn’t very good. Eduardo Nunez, Miguel Sano, Brian Dozier and Max Kepler are all in play.
3. Houston Astros- Facing Kemdall Graveman who pitches to contact, not striking out a lot of hitters. Colby Rasmus, Jose Altuve, Evan Gattis, Carlos Correa, and Luis Valbuena are all top options.
4. Los Angeles Angels– Gallardo…… Stack against him. Trout, Pujols, Simmons, Cron and Calhoun.
5. Texas Rangers– facing off vs. Ricky Nolasco, The Rangers both righties and lefties could blow up. Desmond, odor, Profar, Fielder and Mazara and Beltre. Twins – Rangers could be highest scoring game of the day.
Nationals @ Mets- 60% rain
